Art of EMOTION: OLD MAN + PORTFOLIO REDO

Art of EMOTION-- OLD MAN + PORTFOLIO REDO
1.Process/goal: Accurate drawing, trying to get all the wrinkles correct, many pencil strokes, not focusing on each stroke, just to the sum of a greater whole. Try to reproduce the photo.
2. Drawing upside down: Focusing more on forehead/hair instead of beards as before. Focusing more on the shape of the face, titled angle. When turned right side up it looks more like the reference compared with the 1st one. Forced to focus on each stroke of the figure. I am paying closer attention to details.
3.The curved line on every stroke: make a difference to the picture, not a lot in my case because I originally used lots of curved lines, but still it makes the old man looks nicer and friendly.
4.Straight edges: Sharpe edges take a longer time to draw. The figure looks abstract, there is a sense of anger, indifference personality shows on the old man. He looks harsh, harder, and less friendly. It looks more like comics/graphic novel type of approach.
5.Tempo drawing. One steamboat, two steamboats. The figure looks more abstract, it adds more iterations, not focusing on shapes. Exaggerated the figure.

6.Short/fast tempo drawing. One steamboat. The figure losing its shape and looks absolutely abstract. It looks more like a cartoon character rather than a real man. Difficult to tell its personality. It becomes more symbolized, good to become a branding mark.

Original character

Other iterations:
7. Small shaded lines only: takes the most of the time to draw, requires good patience with a wonderful effect. The figure looks like moving/flying The small lines look like speed lines in comics, make the figure illusory.
8. Dotted lines: make the drawing with inconsistent lines, also takes a long time to do, a similar effect as sharp edges, the figure looks hard, less friendly.
